Draught-proofing

To fully draught-proof the window, both sashes do not need to be removed.

Either of the following methods can be adopted:

  1. Where top sash remains in place (bottom sash removed), replace parting beads and baton rods with seal routered into the wood. The 'mid-rail' or counter check  (where the two sashes meet) of the bottom sash will also be routered for seal.
  2. Routering the actual sashes so the seal is in the sash as it moves up and down. Parting beads and baton rods are still replaced in this option. In addition the chords are always changed for bottom sash and replaced where required for top sashes.

Price: £120 - £180 depending on size

The type of seal used is Aquamac, which is manufactured using a water repellent foam that is unaffected by rot, mould or mildew and will not freeze to contacting surface.

Aquamac seal is produced by Schlegel and conforms to BS644/ BBA.

This seal which fills the varying joints and gaps is impervious to paint and stain. Due to its high wear resistance Aquamac reduces wear and tear between the surfaces.
